Group Advocates Change of Power To The South

According to NewsLodge 2022, As agitation over which region of the country will produce the next president to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 angers one group, Concerned Nigeria Citizens says parties should locate their presidential slots in the south “for the sake of justice and fairness” .

Addressing a press conference at the NUJ Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, the group’s convener, Femi Osabinu, said the voting pattern of Nigerians may lean heavily on where political parties field their presidential candidates in the upcoming general election.

The group, led by Mr. Osabinu as Coordinator and Sidi Ali as Secretary General, said that the current political and security situation in the country required power to shift to the South.

The group argued that since the North has had its ‘fair’ share of leadership of the country for the last seven years, it is only fair to locate the Presidency in the southern part of the country for the next political dispensation.

As it finalized plans to stage a mass rally in Abuja on Wednesday to assert its position, the group noted that since the return to civilian rule in 1999, there has been an unwritten conventional way of rotating power between North and South. , adding that it is troubling how most political parties play down the zoning deal out of a sense of selfishness.
