LASG Engages Youths On Nation Building

The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Segun Dawodu, has stated that the task of building an egalitarian nation in which everyone can actualise their dreams is not one that must be left to the government alone. Speaking at a mentoring session tagged "Time Out with Youth Leaders/Influencers in the State", held at the Lagos State Television (LTV8) recently, Dawodu said, "you will all agree with me that this session is timely, as it will create meaningful discourse between young achievers and influencers in both Government and Private sector. It will engage the youth leaders on nation-building and possibly form a mentor-mentee relationship”. While charging the youths to channel their energies towards a productive end with the same zeal displayed during the #ENDSARS protest, Dawodu disclosed that the Lagos State Government will be coming out with more Youth-Based Programmes and Projects such as skills training, employability/employment opportunities, entertainment, sports activities, among others, for the benefit of young people. In his presentation, themed "My Lagos, My Future", one of the facilitators and motivational speaker, Mr. Abbas Agbaje implored the youths to see Lagos as a place with abundant opportunities where they can maximise their potentials, provided they back up their competence with character. According to him, the youths need to build their lifestyle and pursuits on the basis of the acronym: V.P.I. model which stands for Vision/Value system; Purpose/People; and Identity, adding that by so doing the youths would be able to support the State by contributing their quota meaningfully towards the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the same vein, other speakers like Mrs. Tope Mark-Odigie, Mrs. Ayo Alli Balogun, Mr. Gbenga Abiola and Mr. Abiola Folawiyo were unanimous in advising the youths to look inwards in order to bring out their potentials and become job creators rather than job seekers.
