This week brought a series of impactful developments—from inspiring diasporan success stories to bold strides in governance and sustainability in Lagos.

Diaspora Nigerians Make History in London

President Bola Tinubu congratulated Opeyemi Bright and Jason Jackson, two British Nigerians, on their recent election and inauguration as Mayors in London. The President hailed this as a proud moment for Nigeria, celebrating the growing influence of Nigerians in the diaspora. Their leadership underscores the vital role the diaspora plays in shaping a positive global image for Nigeria.

Northern Leaders Endorse Tinubu for 2027

In national politics, northern leaders have formally endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, citing his progress on economic reforms, security enhancement, and efforts toward national unity. This early endorsement strengthens Tinubu’s political momentum as Nigeria looks ahead to the 2027 general elections.

Central Bank Pushes for Diaspora-Focused Innovation

The Central Bank of Nigeria has urged financial institutions to create more diaspora-friendly products and services. With remittance fees remaining high, the CBN is advocating for competitive pricing and improved financial services to better serve Nigerians abroad—thereby increasing foreign exchange inflows and supporting families back home.

Governor Sanwo-Olu Reaffirms Transparency in Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated that transparency remains a cornerstone of his administration. By prioritizing openness in project execution and financial expenditure, the government continues to foster trust, drive efficiency, and improve public service delivery across Lagos.

Enhanced Security Measures Across Lagos

The Lagos State Government has doubled down on its commitment to security, with increased deployment of personnel, enhanced surveillance, and active community engagement. Officials are urging residents to collaborate with law enforcement to maintain peace and stability across neighborhoods.

Tackling Urban Fire Hazards Head-On

In 2024 alone, Lagos has recorded property losses of over ₦19.5 billion due to fire outbreaks. Despite these challenges, emergency responders rescued over 450 victims. The state government has responded by building new fire stations, installing industrial boreholes for firefighting, and recruiting an additional 100 security personnel—highlighting a proactive stance in disaster management and urban safety.

Greener Lagos: CNG Training Program for Polytechnic Students

In alignment with its sustainability agenda, the Lagos State Government has launched a technical training program for 500 polytechnic students focused on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle conversion. This forward-looking initiative equips students with hands-on skills in green technology, promotes cleaner energy alternatives, and supports job creation in emerging sectors.
