Lagos State started 2025 in grand style, setting new tourism benchmarks and doubling down on efforts to boost its contributions to the state’s GDP. The state government hosted an array of unforgettable events designed to showcase Lagos’ rich cultural heritage and tourism potential.
In a historic departure from tradition, the government swapped centralized celebrations for an engaging roadshow themed “Lagos Tourism is Rising.” The initiative brought Diasporans, visitors, and residents together on a vibrant tour of the city.
A convoy of double-decker buses, motorbikes, and Lagos Ride vehicles paraded through iconic locations such as Ikoyi, Lekki, and Lagos Island. Along the way, guests enjoyed music, dance, and engaging conversations that highlighted the beauty and vibrancy of Lagos.
The tour included stops at landmark sites like the JRandle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, the Nike Art Gallery, and other cultural hubs, offering participants an immersive experience of Lagos’ artistic and historical richness. The event concluded with a delightful dinner featuring the best of Lagos cuisine, leaving attendees with a taste of the state’s culinary excellence.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Art, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, described the roadshow as part of the government’s broader plan to elevate Lagos’ global tourism profile in 2025. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to exceeding the achievements of 2024 by doing things better and more creatively under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s leadership.
Aregbe highlighted that this initiative aimed to appreciate Nigerians in the diaspora and lovers of Lagos for choosing the city as their go-to destination for business and leisure. The roadshow, he noted, was a testament to the government’s resolve to make Lagos a top global tourism hotspot while celebrating its cultural heritage.
