From global investment summits to grassroots development initiatives, Lagos under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is undergoing an inspiring transformation. Here’s a look at some of the remarkable strides the state has made in recent months.
Global Spotlights and Diplomatic Engagements
Lagos took centre stage at the 2025 Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit (CTIS) in London. Alongside Enugu State’s Governor Peter Mbah, top Nigerian business leaders, and dignitaries like Aliko Dangote, Jim Ovia, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Sanwo-Olu showcased Lagos as a hub for trade, infrastructure, and innovation.
Lagos has also been deepening international ties. The state welcomed Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée to discuss collaborations in power, technology, and transport. Similarly, engagements with Belgium and Sweden have sparked fresh bilateral opportunities in cybersecurity, food logistics, and cultural exchange.
Infrastructure, Digital Innovation, and Environmental Action
A major milestone in Lagos’ digital journey was the commissioning of Rack Centre’s new 12MW Data Centre (LGS2)—a testament to Lagos’ readiness for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Meanwhile, strategic enforcement of planning regulations in Lekki is protecting coastal areas from illegal reclamation and promoting sustainable urban growth.
Flood-prone zones are also receiving attention. In collaboration with UNIDO and LASEPA, the state is equipping informal food vendors and waste workers to serve as hygiene ambassadors, combating cholera and improving sanitation across vulnerable communities.
Empowering Communities and Supporting Inclusion
From celebrating 223 retirees to disbursing N1.53 billion in pensions to over 700 beneficiaries, Lagos continues to prioritize people. Special initiatives are also advancing the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities through better parking infrastructure and legal compliance, led by LASODA and LASPA.
Women-focused NGOs were empowered at a one-day workshop organized by WAPA, and the state is also preparing to unveil a Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy Roadmap in May. These efforts affirm the administration’s drive toward inclusive development.
Fostering Culture, Youth Development, and Tourism
The state’s commitment to culture and tourism is stronger than ever. Plans are underway to integrate autism-focused art into Lagos’ creative calendar, and the second edition of the Lagos Tourism NBC Trade Fair promises to spotlight local talent and brands.
In education and youth engagement, LASUBEB has partnered with ICPC to launch an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, while LASU recently hosted a riveting debate won by the Lagos State College of Health Technology. Youth empowerment also took centre stage in LASRRA’s partnership with the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
Urban Planning, Housing, and Future Development
The unveiling of the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan (2024–2044) is set to redefine the future of Lagos. With projections for industrial, tourism, and agricultural growth, Ibeju-Lekki is poised to become Lagos’ next economic nerve centre.
At the same time, housing awareness is growing thanks to the National Housing Fund (NHF) sensitization programs, while economic planning retreats are aligning public sector performance with citizen-centric development.
The Future Is Lagos
From the local grassroots to global platforms, Lagos is building an inclusive, tech-forward, economically empowered city. These initiatives reflect the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his dedicated team—a Lagos that works for everyone.
