Anthony Joshua Visits Pres. Bola Tinubu

Olympic gold medallist and two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

During the visit, Joshua presented the President with an autographed boxing glove inscribed with a special dedication: “To the Great Asiwaju Jagaban Borgu of Africa, Bola A. Tinubu.”


The gesture, aimed at celebrating the President’s influence and leadership, was captured in photos shared on the Presidency’s official X handle.

The accompanying caption read, “President Bola Tinubu receiving an autographed glove from former World Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua, when he visited the President at his residence in Lagos.”

The visit underscored Joshua’s deep ties to Nigeria and his pride in his heritage. Following his meeting with the President, the boxing icon was hosted by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s office in Abeokuta. Governor Abiodun announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in the state to honor the athlete’s achievements and inspire budding talents.



The governor further revealed that Joshua had been invited to play a significant role in the Gateway Games National Sports Festival by lighting the festival torch in May 2025.


Joshua’s visit and his active participation in local sports initiatives reflected his commitment to nurturing the next generation of Nigerian athletes. His engagements symbolized a promising future for sports development in the country, inspiring young Nigerians to pursue excellence in athletics.
