Transforming Infrastructure: Enhancing Connectivity in Lagos
In a step forward for urban development, Governor Sanwo-Olu commissioned the newly constructed Morohunfolu Road in Bariga LCDA, executed under Hon. Kolade Alabi. Complementing the recently completed St. Finbarr's Road, this infrastructure project enhances connectivity and fosters economic growth.
With representation by Hon. Bukola Adedeji, Hon. Alabi thanked the Governor and the Bariga community, emphasizing the importance of collaborative leadership in achieving milestones.
Additionally, progress on the Gberigbe Road project in Ikorodu underscores Lagos’ dedication to eliminating flooding, reducing travel time, and boosting socio-economic activities. The project aligns with the state’s "Greater Lagos" vision, further integrating solar-powered streetlights and durable pavements.
Breaking Barriers: First Female Speaker in Lagos State Assembly
Mojisola Lasbat Meranda made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Her election, alongside Deputy Speaker Mojeed Fatai, marks a new era of inclusive leadership. Having served as Deputy Speaker and representing Apapa Constituency I, Meranda pledged to advance the Assembly’s agenda for progress and equity. Leaders like Commissioner Hon. Bolaji Dada commended this milestone as a monumental step for gender inclusivity in governance.
Advancing Lagos’ Cultural and Entertainment Leadership
The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture is taking strides to position Lagos as Africa's entertainment capital. The resounding success of the 2024 "Detty December" event, which drew over 1.2 million attendees, highlights the city’s global appeal.
Commissioner Toke Benson-Awoyinka announced plans to address gaps in the music industry, including the establishment of a music academy and talent development programs. Ghazi Shami, founder of Empire Distribution USA, acknowledged Lagos’ achievements, emphasizing the importance of artist rights and legal frameworks.
Sustainability and Energy Transition on a Global Scale
At the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. Speaking on the theme, “From Climate Imperatives to Economic Prosperity: Bringing Africa Into the Future of Global Energy,” Tinubu outlined a three-pronged strategy: energy transition, resilience, and sustainable growth.
Initiatives such as promoting compressed natural gas (CNG), electric vehicles, and clean energy sources demonstrate Nigeria’s dedication to balancing economic growth and environmental sustainability. Tinubu called for international collaboration to accelerate technological advancements and financial support for Nigeria’s climate goals.
A Unified Vision for the Future
Lagos State also saw advancements in governance, with the swearing-in of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) led by Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile, alongside three new Permanent Secretaries. These appointments reinforce the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda, focusing on inclusivity, innovation, and development.
